A Soldiers Home The willingness to risk failure-as difficult as that can be-often leads us to remarkable discoveries about ourselves and our world. But on the other hand, not taking risks can save us from amounts of devastation and heartache. I think that was a major principle for Krebs in the short story, "Soldiers Home." After going to hell and back, it's almost inevitable that anyone under the circumstances would be completely overwhelmed by all that Krebs had experienced and risked. He risked his life, and was then thrown back into a society that he had been absent from for years, and finds that its all the exact way that he had left it, except he says, "Nothing was changed in the town except that the young girls had grown up." In Krebs case, after returning from war, he had become a completely different person. Distant, quiet and depressed. He didn't want to risk any complications. He didn't want to risk any part of himself ever again. He didn't want to work for what he wanted, he had worked hard enough and had been through a lifetime of disaster. All he wanted was to sit back and just live. Not enjoy life, not experience new and better things, he just wanted to live without any complications and without taking any risks. He mentions that he would like to have a girl, or more so wouldn't mind. But he doesn't want to work to get her, or do anything drastic to get her attention. It would just all be to complicated. He wants no commitment, no strings attached. "He did not want any consequences. He did not want any consequences ever again. He wanted to live without consequences. Besides, he did not really need a girl. The army had taught him that." For Krebs, asking out a girl would be a risk and lead to complications whether good or bad. And taking that risk just wasn't worth anything. Krebs was dead inside. Not intentionally, but subconsciously. He knew not of what he was doing.

Cheating In Relationships Essay

Many people today have sought the cruel and unfair reasons for relationship problems and cheating. Philosophers of the past have analyzed various contributing factors such as flirting with others, not happy with one another anymore, too much time spent with the opposite sex, other is not sexually active with the other anymore, or one just doesn’t want to be in the relationship any longer but simply knows of no other way to get out. All of these are the causes of cheating in relationships. There is a quote that states â€Å"A relationship is not a test so why cheat?† This quotes says a lot. There are so many causes to cheating in relationships but why do it? Why should you let someone or something get in the way of your love life and your feelings for your loved one? If you truly love someone, other things or people won’t matter to you or catch your eye and make you develop feelings for them and lose your feelings for your partner. You should always think about the effects of cheating on your partner/spouse. The effects of cheating in a relationship can be very severe or could not mean anything at all to someone. Some effects of cheating cold result in suicide, violence, depression or maybe even death. To me, those effects are extremely severe and could be life-changing. I have heard many stories about a partner or spouse cheating on one another and it resulting in death of one or the other. Cheating is very harmful to people and should not be done in any way at all possible, not physically, emotionally or sexually. In the bible, cheating is defined as Adultery and it is illegal which I fully believe it should be illegal to this day. Now that you know the causes and the effects that cheating in relationships has on your partner, maybe you will think twice about doing it. Hopefully you won’t think about doing it all though. Just remember that there is a strong possibility that you could be putting someone’s life in danger because of the effect of cheating. Tasseled Wobbegong Shark Facts

The tasselled wobbegong shark is one of the most extraordinary looking shark species.  These animals, sometimes referred to as carpet sharks, have distinctive, branched lobes extending from their heads and a flattened appearance. Although these sharks were first described in 1867, they remain mysterious, as they are not well-known. These sharks have 24 to 26 pairs of highly branched dermal lobes that extend from the front of the sharks head to its pectoral fins. It also has branched nasal barbels on its head.  This shark has patterns of dark lines over lighter skin, with dark spots and saddle patches.   Like other wobbegong sharks, tasselled wobbegongs have large heads and mouths, flattened bodies and a spotted appearance.  They are usually thought to grow to a maximum size of about 4 feet in length, although a questionable report estimated one tasselled wobbegong at 12 feet. These sharks have three rows of sharp, fang-like teeth in their upper jaw and two rows of teeth in their lower jaw. Reproduction The tasselled wobbegong shark is ovoviviparous, which means that the females eggs develop within her body. During this process, the young get their nourishment in the womb from the egg yolk. Pups are about 7 to 8 inches long when born. Habitat and Conservation Tasselled wobbegong sharks live in tropical waters in the southwest Pacific Ocean off Indonesia, Australia, and New Guinea. They prefer shallow waters near coral reefs, in water depths of about 6 to 131 feet. Not much is known about this species, and at one point, their populations appeared to be declining, leading to their listing as near threatened. As with all marine animals, threats include damage to and loss of their coral reef habitat and overfishing. Because of their beautiful coloration and interesting appearance, these sharks are sometimes kept in aquariums. Even so, the tasselled wobbegong is most recently listed under least concern. Feeding This species feeds at night upon benthic (bottom) fish and invertebrates. During the day, tasselled wobbegong sharks rest in sheltered areas, such as in caves and under ledges. Their mouths are so large that they have even been seen swallowing other sharks whole. This shark can feed on other fish that share its caves. Aggression Wobbegong sharks are not generally considered threatening to humans. However, their ability to camouflage with their environment, combined with sharp teeth, can result in a painful bite if you come across one of these sharks. Each small step it took to move into my new home meant bigger and brighter responsibilities. From the drive down to IPFW to when I laid my head down to sleep was a positive moment that changed my life. This transition was the beginning of a new chapter in my life that I was proud to accomplish. The morning of August 19th only a yawn away, anxiety ran through my body like a strike of lightening. I was feeling so many emotions I was not sure how to express how excited I was to be moving into an entirely new environment. As I prepared for the big move I also felt a sense of sadness in the air, here I was my mother’s only girl leaving off for college. While reviewing my old room checking just to see if everything was set I found myself sitting on the corner of the sheet less bed reminiscing on the good and bad memorize I held behind the walls of this house. I found it ironic that even though this place was so hard to forget it was easy to let go. As the road trip begun I realized that this was it, and there was no turning back. Everyone was saying their goodbyes even though they realize that it was not forever. The van was packed to its maximum, and the ride was roughly two hours away. I had to cease the moment and go to sleep or at least attempt to get some rest. I sat and watched cars pass by and I felt the stretch of distance from home I was becoming, I wondered if any of the cars I saw were headed to the same place as I was. I can honestly say that this day did not go according to plan. There was an issue that occurred of whether or not I was staying in my assigned room or moving into another, so part of the day was a little stressful. At the same time I could not let it get to me and effect what I had to get accomplished for the remainder of the day. In the mist of all that commotion I realize that life is full of obstacles waiting to hit you as soon as you turn the page of a chapter in your life. It is up to you if you allow something to hinder your goals and success. Entering the home of IPFW I was waiting to feel welcomed, like I was home again, but deep down I knew that it was not time to feel at home when I did not have the keys to my room. All kinds of thoughts began to run through my head because in a matter of hours I would be on my own to take care of myself. During the next couple hours I started to feel independent because I had keys to my dorm. As I walked up to the door my mom had a video camera watching me put in my key for the first time. It tickled me a little to know that this moment was just as big to her as it was to me. We began to bring in my belongings, boxes already labeled to where they belonged. I was so thankful to have some of my family there to help me unpack and it gave us more time to spend with each other before they left on their journey back to South Bend. The more it became closer for me to be alone the more I thought about how I never had this much responsibility handed to me at one time. At this time I began to feel overwhelmed, but I did not panic and become all worked up about the situation. There was no room for mistakes, even though I truly knew that I was going to make a lot of them. Getting to know a place was another task that would add on my experience. Later on we took a small trip to do some more last minute shopping for food. As the times go by, I realize that in a matter of time there will be no more running to my parents for help; because there was only me. I knew that from here on out that I had to build myself confidence and take on my own responsibilities. At this moment I am still absorbing the fact that I am going to be on my own. As the seconds go by I am becoming more comfortable with the fact that I have me, myself, and I to depend on for the rest of my life starting when my family walk out the doors of my dorm room. When I was here alone finishing up the last touches of my room and new home, I waited for my roommate to arrive. I was very glad that I knew her previous to coming down to Fort Wayne. As soon as we both ended our goodbyes with our families we just took a second to soak in our new life. I realize that soon the weekend would come to an end and class would begin, all fun and games will have to be set aside. Before I could do that, for one small moment I had to just prance around and jump on my bed. I did not really have a valid reason to why, but I felt the urge to express myself in a goofy manner. Once again I found myself sitting on the corner of the bed thinking about the future this time, and what it took for me to get there. This moment that lasted throughout the course of the day was a step that I was ready to take, but yet not sure where it would take me. Starting from that day my life would never be the same. Each day was all about survival on my own. I knew in order from me to make it through college I had to become socially active with my peers and life around campus. I take this moment and look at the negative and turn it into a positive because without negativity I do not think that we would able to appreciate the values of positivity. From that period on I have to rely on myself to fix my next meal, wake myself and be prepared for my next class. There is no room for dwelling on the past and wishing for what i do not have because it is not going to help me when it is not present. This moment set me up for a new beginning of my life and career. Decisions waiting to be made of the unknown. From this point I was an independent adult and no longer living under rules that I had to ask permission. The way I see it is I am free! When the day was finally complete I rested my head on the pillow and prepare for the following day. This moment help me become the person that I am today, someone that is driven to improve my abilities to better my skills and accomplish way more then what my eyes can envision.
